Year 5 visit Harry Potter World

Year 5 visit Harry Potter World

As part of their topic ‘Turrets and Tiaras’ and class text ‘Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone’ students in Year 5 visited Harry Potter World at the Warner Bros Studio in London.

Students toured the studio and flew a broom and saw many of the famous scenes from the movie including, The Forbidden Forest where a giant spider dropped down on them, The Great Hall, Diagon Alley and The Hogwarts Express.

They were also lucky enough to be visiting in January and so experienced ‘Hogwarts in the Snow’ where most of the iconic sets were decorated for festive scenes, including a blanket of filmmaking snow meticulously applied to the majestic Hogwarts castle model.

Year 5 teacher Mrs Claire Johnson said ‘The behaviour of the students was perfect throughout the day, we all had an amazing time, the children thoroughly enjoyed it and got an awful lot out of it and are very excited about our topic. Since they have been back they have been applying what they have learnt to their work in the classroom and their writing has been fantastic. They are going to be writing a Harry Potter spell in French and making wands from wood depending on the month they were born in.’

Year 5 student Shayden Taylor said ‘It was really good there were colossal pictures on the walls of all the main characters as you walked in and we watched a clip about Harry Potter to learn more facts about him and then we went into the Great Hall. My favourite part was ‘The Forbidden Forrest’ because there were creatures and spiders dropping down on our heads! I think the facts that we learnt will help me in our topic and it was really interesting to learn more about Harry Potter and how the films were made.’

Year 5 student Damian Janus said, ‘I liked it because everything was so big and the Christmas tree and snow was still there which made it even more magical. My favourite part was visiting Platform 9 and ¾ because we got to see the train that Harry Potter travelled to Hogwarts on. I think the trip will help me with my creative writing as it will help me to use my imagination more.’
