Local farm animals visit Reception

As part of their new topic ‘Paws, Claws, Feathers and Whiskers,’ students in reception enjoyed a visit from a local educational mobile farm, where they received a hands-on tactile experience with farm animals.

There were lambs, goats, ducks, a cockerel, piglets, dogs and a pony which students took turns in having a ride on.  They got the chance to learn lots of information about different farm animals and were able to pet them.

The experience links to the area of learning ‘understanding the world’ which is part of the curriculum and a good opportunity for students to get close to farm animals and learn more about them.

Reception teacher Ms Jenny Tew said ‘The students had a fantastic morning and really enjoyed the farm. It was a great opportunity for them to experience something they might never have done before. The smiles on their faces whilst riding the pony was just brilliant to see.’

Reception student Ailsa said, ‘I liked riding the horse and seeing the piglets, the brown one was jumping on the ginger piglet and it was funny.’
