A group of 15 Year 5 students were invited to take part in a Trust Rugby tournament and coaching session at the Northampton Saint’s ground Franklin Gardens.

The day, organised by Director of Sport for the Trust Kirsty Smith, saw the five Trust Primary schools, Beanfield Primary, Compass Primary, Gretton Primary, Peckover Primary and Oakley Vale come together to receive a morning of tag rugby coaching, followed by a tour of the grounds and finishing with a Trust tag tournament which consisted of four eight minute games, won by Compass Primary.

PE Coordinator Miss Polly Murdoch said ‘The day was fantastic and taught the students the skills of tag rugby. It was a really nice way to develop their team work as well as mixing with the other Trust primary schools.’

Year 5 Student Olivia Masterson said ‘It was a really fun day, I liked the running and how we got to take the tags off everyone and I scored a try. The tour was really interesting, as I have never looked around a rugby stadium before. The home changing rooms were really nice because they were bright and colourful but the away ones were smelly and dark and because they were under the seats players can get easily distracted by the noise of the crowds.’
