Year 1 Moles ‘Get Lean in 15’

Year 1 Moles ‘Get Lean in 15’

Students in Year 1 spent the morning getting lean, fit and healthy following along to a HIIT YouTube video by Joe Wicks, the Body Coach.

Joe is targeting schools as part of his new initiative to get young people more engaged in getting and staying fit. He has filmed ‘live’ videos where more than1,200 schools have taken part at the same time across the UK.

HIIT, or high-intensity interval training, is a training technique in which you give one hundred percent effort through quick, intense bursts of exercise, followed by short recovery periods. This type of training gets and keeps your heart rate up and is fantastic at burning body fat because you not only burn calories during the session you also burn them for hours after.

Year 1 teacher Ms Laura Medley said ‘I think it’s important that students are interested in and do exercise it’s a great brain break and it keeps you fit and healthy. They love doing The Body Coach videos where they watch and follow instructions. It really helps them in not only keeping healthy but also being able to watch and follow a set of instructions which is vital to their learning.’

Some Year 1 students said;

‘I liked doing the video because it was tricky and it was a challenge to me. ‘

‘I don’t feel tired at all, I feel like I have lots of energy and could do more! I want to get a six pack!’

‘It’s god to do exercise so you can get fit and stay healthy.’
