Oakley Vale celebrates Chinese New Year

Oakley Vale celebrates Chinese New Year

The whole school celebrated Chinese New Year, the Year of the Dog in February, which focused on learning how people celebrate the festival.

Students enjoyed a whole school assembly where they learnt about Chinese New Year and two of our students explained how their family celebrates the New Year. During the day lessons were focused on a variety of different tasks, from cooking Chinese food to working on maths puzzles linked to the Chinese New Year.

Deputy Head Mrs Nikki McDonald said ‘Everyone really enjoyed celebrating Chinese New Year. We like to teach our students about our fundamental British values which include tolerance and acceptance.  We also teach them about different cultures and faiths so they have an understanding of difference and similarities in the people around them.’
