Introducing Morris the Monkey

Introducing Morris the Monkey

Introducing Oakley Vale’s newest member of the Wellbeing team, Morris the Monkey who is the school’s attendance mascot and gets awarded to the class that has the highest attendance for the week.

Morris, who even has his own school identity badge, was introduced to continue to improve on the schools successful attendance from last year of 97%. He is awarded to the class that has the highest attendance for the week during the attendance assembly on Monday who then look after Morris for a week and record his mischievousness in his monkey diary.

Family Support Worker Mrs Julia Baulch said ‘Morris is a fun way to encourage the students to ensure they are in school on time and increase our attendance to 100%. He is a naughty monkey though and so far has been found in the library, climbing the apparatus and hiding in classrooms. The children have been very excited to come into school to discover what Morris has been up to during the night.’

Year 1 teacher Mrs Mandy Mutch said ‘My class won Morris this week and the children were really excited, cheering in assembly and looking forward to seeing what he would get up to. Some of my students have said to me ‘I want to come to school on time so we can win Morris’ so it seems to have had an impact on them and is a fantastic way to help improve their attendance.’

Year 1 students Etta-Sue Hill and Inez Wader said,  ‘Morris is really, really cheeky. When we were sleeping I thought ‘Where will Morris be today?’ and he was right on the ceiling!’ We have got Morris this week because we were the best at coming into school on time every single day.  We are going to take lots of photos of him. We love having him in our classroom and want to have him all of the time!’
