New after school media club

New after school media club

Teachers Miss Grkinic and Mrs Johnson have set up a new after school media club for Year 4 students.

The children have been learning about camera angles, how to use Publisher to create news articles and have interviewed members of staff.  Miss Grkinic said ‘We wanted to set up a media club as I think a lot of children currently aspire to be YouTubers and their online presence is greater than ever. It’s good to utilise the iPads we have in school and if the children are presenting news stories it gets adults involved and gives them ownership of what is happening in their school.’

Future ideas are to create profiles of staff and film and edit a video for the school website. The club has been fantastic in creating student awareness and they are watching programmes like Newsround to see how they can develop their reporting skills.

Year 4 student Katie Blow said ‘I really like media club because I enjoy writing. We are writing a recount on the Year 4 Think Tank museum trip. We will then type it on the computer and put it online. ‘

Media club runs on Wednesdays after school. If any Year 4 students would like to join they need to send a letter to Miss Grkinic or Mrs Johnson, explaining what they can offer to the club and any experience they have.
