Design Technology
Inspiring pupils to design, create, and innovate through purposeful, practical learning and real-world problem-solving.
We believe high-quality design and technology education is vital to creativity, culture, and well-being. Our ambitious curriculum, developed with guidance from the Design and Technology Association, goes beyond the National Curriculum to equip pupils with the skills to thrive in the modern world.
Children develop technical knowledge and practical expertise to design and make high-quality products for real users and purposes. They learn to evaluate their work and that of others, understand nutrition, and gain hands-on experience in cooking.
Using the Projects on a Page framework, our curriculum balances learning how things work with designing and making functional products. Pupils explore materials, mechanisms, structures, and control systems, while also considering sustainability, enterprise, and safety. They engage in three core activities: investigating existing products, focused skill-building tasks, and designing, making and evaluating purposeful items.
