Writing
Empowering children to write with confidence, creativity and purpose across a range of genres and contexts.
Our reading and writing curriculum are interwoven to ensure that our children read as readers and write as writers. We use quality texts as ‘hooks’ and ‘anchors’ to inspire children to communicate their own messages with flair.
We aim to develop confident, assured writers who can express their knowledge, ideas, and emotions accurately, fluently and with mastery. We place a strong emphasis on oracy and discussion, giving children the opportunity to explore and articulate their thoughts before writing. This ensures that when they begin to write, they do so with clarity, purpose, and confidence.
We focus on building a rich vocabulary, secure spelling knowledge, and a strong grasp of grammar, enabling children to write accurately and adapt their style for different audiences and purposes.
Presentation is also a key priority. We encourage children to take pride in their work, developing a fluent, legible handwriting style by the time they transition to secondary school. Phonics continues to support early writing development, laying the foundation for fluency and independence.
