History
Exploring the past to understand the present through rich, chronological, and enquiry-led history learning.
A high-quality history education helps pupils gain a coherent understanding of Britain’s past and the wider world. Our curriculum, developed with the Historical Association and aligned alongside the National Curriculum programmes of study, builds chronological knowledge and encourages curiosity about how the past has shaped the present.
Pupils explore key historical concepts such as continuity and change, cause and consequence, and significance. They learn to use historical enquiry methods, analyse evidence, and understand how interpretations of the past are formed. Every child will have the opportunity to learn through primary sources and artefacts.
The curriculum is structured around core themes including diversity and migration, empire and civilisation, invasion and settlement, and the rule of law. These are explored through progressive lessons from EYFS to KS2, helping pupils build both substantive knowledge and disciplinary skills.
