Building a strong foundation in maths so every child can think critically, solve problems, and enjoy learning.

A love of maths is nurtured from the very start of Reception, helping children to enjoy the subject, foster creativity and stimulate curiosity. Our curriculum builds strong foundations in arithmetic by prioritising fluency in the core operations—addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. 

We encourage mathematical thinking, enabling children to powerfully communicate their understanding and reasoning, tackling problems in a variety of contexts, including real life, by thinking aloud and working collaboratively. We understand that strong conceptual understanding is rooted in the experiences children are exposed to – therefore we prioritise the concrete, pictorial, abstract approach in the classroom which powerfully promotes deeper thinking. 

Our approach is supported by the use of the White Rose Maths scheme which carefully sequences learning and helps children make connections between concepts and adapt their thinking to different types of problems.
